Tier 1 Examination Syllabus
A. Cognitive Skills & Reasoning: This section comprises both verbal and non-verbal reasoning questions, covering various topics like analogies, spatial visualization, problem-solving, decision making, memory, and pattern recognition. It includes Semantic Analogy, Symbolic/Number Analogy, Figural Analogy, Semantic Classification, Symbolic/Number Classification, Figural Classification, Semantic Series, Number Series, Figural Series, Problem Solving, Word Building, Coding & Decoding, Numerical Operations, Trends, Spatial Orientation, Space Visualization, Venn Diagrams, and Embedded Figures.
B. General Awareness: This section assesses candidates’ knowledge of current events, societal implications, and understanding of India and its neighboring countries. It includes questions on History, Culture, Geography, Economic Scene, General Policy, and Scientific Research.
C. Quantitative Aptitude: This section evaluates candidates’ numerical abilities, covering topics such as computation, percentages, ratios, averages, interest, profit and loss, time and distance, algebra, geometry, and data interpretation.
D. English Comprehension: This section tests candidates’ comprehension skills, writing ability, and proficiency in English language.
The difficulty level of questions in Parts A, B, and D corresponds to the essential qualification of Graduation, while questions in Part C are aligned with a 10th standard level of difficulty.
Tier 2 Examination Syllabus
Module-I of Session-I of Paper-I (Mathematical Abilities):
Number Systems: Understanding operations with Whole Numbers, Decimals, and Fractions, as well as their relationships.
Fundamental Arithmetical Operations: Proficiency in Percentages, Ratio and Proportion, Square Roots, Averages, Interest (Simple and Compound), Profit and Loss, Discount, Partnership Business, Mixture and Alligation, Time and Distance, and Time and Work.
Algebra: Grasping Basic Algebraic Identities, Elementary Surds, and Graphs of Linear Equations.
Geometry: Familiarity with Elementary Geometric Figures such as Triangles, Circles, and properties like centroids and tangents, alongside concepts of Congruence and Similarity.
Mensuration: Understanding Measurement of Various Geometric Figures such as Triangles, Quadrilaterals, Polygons, Circles, Prisms, Cones, Cylinders, Spheres, Hemispheres, and Pyramids.
Trigonometry: Basics of Trigonometry, Trigonometric Ratios, Complementary Angles, and their applications in problem-solving, along with standard identities.
Statistics and Probability: Interpretation of Tables and Graphs, Calculation of Measures of Central Tendency, and understanding simple probabilities.
Module-II of Section-I of Paper-I (Reasoning and General Intelligence):
This module comprises both verbal and non-verbal reasoning tasks including Analogy, Classification, Series Completion, Spatial Orientation, Visual Patterns, Critical Thinking, Problem Solving, Emotional Intelligence, and various other cognitive abilities.
Module-I of Section-II of Paper-I (English Language and Comprehension):
This module evaluates Vocabulary, Grammar, Sentence Structure, and Comprehension skills through tasks like Error Spotting, Synonyms/Antonyms, Idioms & Phrases, Sentence Improvement, Active/Passive Voice, Direct/Indirect Speech, and Comprehension passages.
Module-II of Section-II of Paper-I (General Awareness):
General Awareness questions test candidates’ knowledge of their surroundings, including current events, history, culture, geography, economy, and scientific advancements, focusing on India and its neighboring countries.
Module-I of Section-III of Paper-I (Computer Proficiency):
This module covers Computer Basics, Software Applications (MS Office), Internet Usage, Basics of Networking, Cyber Security, and Keyboard Shortcuts.
Paper-II (Statistics):
This paper encompasses topics such as Data Collection, Presentation, Measures of Central Tendency and Dispersion, Correlation and Regression, Probability Theory, Random Variables, Sampling Theory, Statistical Inference, Time Series Analysis, and Index Numbers.
Paper-III (General Studies-Finance and Economics):
This paper includes Fundamental Accounting Principles, Indian Economy overview, Money and Banking, Fiscal Policy, Economic Reforms, and the role of Information Technology in Governance.
Questions in respective modules are set at different educational levels: Matriculation, 10+2, and Graduation.
After Examination document verification (DV)
In light of the government’s accelerated recruitment efforts and the need for swift processing, the Commission has determined that Document Verification (DV) will be conducted by the respective User Departments/Organizations.
All candidates who qualify for Document Verification must attend with both photocopies and original documents as outlined in Section 15.9.
Candidates will have the opportunity to express preferences for various posts and departments through an Online Option Form on the Commission’s website before the final result is declared. Failure to indicate preferences will result in exclusion from consideration for a specific Post and Ministry/Department/Organization. Once submitted, options cannot be altered, and candidates are advised to exercise caution.
Candidates who fail to submit their post preferences within the specified timeframe will not be considered for any post in the Final Result. No further opportunities will be provided to revise preferences, and grievances regarding this matter will not be entertained by the Commission.
When selecting preferences online, candidates should note that certain posts have specific requirements for Physical Standards, Physical Tests, and Medical Standards, as detailed for positions such as Inspector (Central Excise)-CBIC, Inspector (Examiner)-CBIC, Inspector (Preventive Officer)-CBIC, Inspector-CBN, Sub-Inspector-CBN (Ministry of Finance), Sub-Inspector/Junior Intelligence Officer in NCB (MHA), Sub-Inspector-CBI, Sub-Inspector-NIA. Detailed information is available in Annexure-XVII.
Candidates must ensure they meet all Physical Standards, Physical Tests, and Medical Standards before indicating their preferences. These assessments will be conducted by the respective User Department after final selection and nomination by the Staff Selection Commission. Failure in these tests will result in disqualification from consideration for any other post/department.
During Document Verification, candidates must provide two recent passport-size color photographs and one original Photo ID Proof, as specified in Section 14.7.
Additionally, candidates must submit copies of the following documents:
Matriculation/Secondary Certificate
Educational Qualification Certificate
Caste/Category Certificate (if applicable)
Persons with Benchmark Disabilities Certificate (if applicable)
For Ex-Servicemen (ESM): Serving Defence Personnel Certificate, Undertaking, Discharge Certificate, Relevant Certificate for age relaxation
Certificate by Central Government Civilian Employees (as per Annexure-VII)
No Objection Certificate (if already employed in Government/Government undertakings)
For name change after matriculation due to marriage, remarriage, or divorce, candidates must submit appropriate documentation as follows:
Marriage of women: Photocopy of Husband’s passport, Marriage certificate, or Affidavit
Re-marriage of women: Divorce Deed/Death Certificate (in respect of first spouse), Husband’s passport, Marriage certificate, or Affidavit
Divorce of women: Certified copy of Divorce Decree, Deed Poll/Affidavit
Other name change circumstances: Deed Poll/Affidavit, paper cuttings of two leading daily newspapers, Gazette Notification
Any additional documents specified in the Admission Certificate for DV must also be provided.
